Fox… like my all time favourite TV star Basil Brush
As you will see, he is based upon that great actor, Terry Thomas.
Dear Barnaby! Greetings!
Would you believe you are the first to comment on that particular blog??!!
You do not need to apologize.
The two foxes are the guardians of a tiny shrine in Shizuoka City up on a mountain. The offerings you see laid between the two of them are made by locals. Shinto is actually a form of animism with all nature represented as deities. Actually it is more a way of life than a true religion.
Sometimes other animals keep vigil: racoons, monkeys, eagles, falcons, kytes, and so on.
I made the joke as the foxes seem to be eyeing the offerings!
Forgive my ignorance but are those figures just metaphorical guardians? or is this animism? I know that animism is mixed into many religions, and I assume this is the case here? Forgive me if I am being culturally insensitive here.
