If you know your way or if you have a good friend (or a special companion?), there are many “hidden lairs” worth discovering in Shizuoka City, especially if you venture a bit away from the JR Station and central hub.

Actually, more and more establishments are either opening or moving away from the latter spots.

One area worth exploring extends from Aoba Street to Shichiken Cho and Hitoyado Cho.

One my favorites is le Moment opened about 3 years ago which offers very good food and wines served by the lady owner who is also a qualified sommelier in a space away from it all, which used to be an Italian restaurant. Although there are full menus and party menus available, it a great place for a good glass of wine and one dish according to the carte of the day.

Last time I visited the place was by myself in the late afternoon where I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir from my birthplace, Bourgogne, with a simple but ample cheese plate with home-baked bread.

The establishment being far away from the crowds, it offers a nice moment of quietude in front of nice fare with reasonable prices. Between you and me, I prefer to go there alone, but I will be more than ready to share the information!

But next time I will check their nice website beforehand!
