TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-3

Tonbo in Shimada City is fast becoming a habit!
Very simple, unpretentious and so Japanese. The more for it that it seems to take you back 40~years ago!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-4

This time I had decided to sample their okonomiyaki!
But before that I had my glass of Oomuraya Brewery sake a few minutes walk away!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-5

All orders are prepared as they come. No cheating there!
Moreover the chef is always happy to let you take photographs!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-6

First of all a mixture of batter and shredded cabbage is poured on the hot plate and bacon added later!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-9

Squid, shrimps and dry seaweed were then added!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-10

And also dry bonito shavings!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-11

It is then turned over to cook the other side!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-12

Cooking to a crisp outside!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-15

Once cooked it is then basted with a tomato-based sauce and a BBQ sauce!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-16

It is finally covered with a mayonnaise-based sauce and finished with an original sauce!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-17

It is then served on a plate with the metal spatula for easy cutting!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-18

Once cut it even looked yummier!

TONBO-OKONOMIYAKI-19

A whole meal in itself!

I will report on their yakisoba next!
