A few years ago we used to see those big ads in Japan for “Homo Milk” standing for “Homogeneous Milk”. That is, until someone pointed out this might mislead some people into the wrong conclusions…
I found this truck in front of a kindergarten this morning on the way to my classroom.
After some investigation I found out (with the help of my Japanese student), that yoghurt is also called fermented milk in Japanese!
Acid Milk simply stands for Yoghurt!
Even so, it might be a good idea (but I suppose it is too late!) to think of a change of name, unless some people (again!) think of an even worse possibility! LOL

I think ACID MILK is much more propper than youghurt.
Nearly 30 (or more) years ago japanese enterpreneurs imported the technology from Bulgaria – the brth country of what we call today “Youghurt”. It’s the only region whre the Bacilus Bulgaricum bacteria (named after the country) exists in natural environment. So this bacteria is used to produce real youghurt and etc. Directly translated from bulgarian this healthy type of youghurt actualy means “Acid milk”.
You can also find in japanese markets traditional bulgarian youghurt, made in Japan using the Bacilus Bulgaricum, cultivated there in special lab environment.
Thank you so much for all the kind information!
Luckily they stopped the “homo” name 😉
I thought they actually sell acid milk (or fermented milk). Yogurt is not quite the same… I love fermented milk! I’m very lucky because they sell it here 🙂
I see! LOL
Thank you for clearing that up. Yoghurt! I thought it might a truckload of acidophelous (sp?), a kind of fizzy milk…
