Japanese Gastronomic Fashion: Sushi Socks!

I dicovered these Japanes-style socks yesterday in a small department store in Numazu City and I just couldn’t help buying them at once!

The big toe being independent these socks are actually very comfortable and can be worn inside shoes or sandals of any type!

Now, what sushi do they represent?

Japan is the safest country in the world, but it also produces the best knives and swords in the world, too!
Advertising such a business with a smiling (with a vampire tooth jutting out) manga girl is both novel and disquieting! LOL

It is actually the sign of the oldest knives and cutlery shop in Shizuoka City!

“Beware of the Wild Boars!”
It’s not a joke!

Mind you, they make for good food, too! Wild boar buns are a local specialty!

I found this sign posted on the window of a local train in the west of Shizuoka Prefecture!
To think that so many English-speaking people are available….

Just came back from a short stay in Kyoto where among the usual great settings i found a few interesting hidden sights!
Have you ever heard of a “pain clinic”?

You will discover it on Karasumaru Street.
Dragon, my worst half, explained to me that the establishment meant they are a general practice hospital covering all sicknesses, hence the mention of “pain”!

Weird Japan (30): Beware the Kites! The Birds, not the Toys!

Found this sign in Hasedera Temple in Kamakura City yesterday!

That sign was one of the may posted around the terrace atop the mountain on which the temple is perched.

A little mistake here: the talons of kites are dull as they are scavengers, not predators, although their grip might be painful indeed!

Kite is “tonbi” in Japanese.
Most signs were in English as the Japanese are very much aware of the problem!

Incidentally, real kites, i mean the toys, are also very popular in Japan!

This title is going to attract a few unwanted visitors….

I noticed this large box of odor suppressant in the men’s (don’t ask me about the ladies’!) toilets inside Shizuoka Fujisan Airport in Shimada City!

Before finding catch names for such common and conspicuous products one should check all possibilities…!

Either they confused “sanity” for ” sanitary” or, more likely as the Japanese love to invent new words, it stands for a combination of “Sanitary” and “Safety”!

When some regulations can turn weird when translated into English by people who don’t bother to check….
Can you find them on this board I found in the Movie Theater Plaza inside Cenova Department Store in Shizuoka City?

Who would want to set a movie theater afire?

I was about to take this picture when an employee rolled a moving signboard in front, hence the odd angle.
Well since that might imply you are still allowed to bring one as such, I’m tempted to take a caged human friend of mine along….

Halloween Melon at Cenova Department Store in Shizuoka City!

Shizuoka Prefecture is famous all over Japan for its melons of the highest quality (and price!) in this country!
Just I was shopping this evening I noticed this cute display in the fruit section!

I had a good look, but d\frankly speaking I would be hard put to put a name of the variety.
It was not really ripe either, otherwise that kind of melon would have melted inside!

The melon is genuine but the skin color is probably artificially induced (not exposed to the sun or whatever) and obviously grown only fora decorative purpose.
But it still is worth its entertainment value!
