Abandoned Shizuoka: Ivy Building in Otowa Cho, Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City!

In shizuoka City, except for obvious designs, a lot of ivy is almost certainly a sign of abandonment considering the mild and humid climate!

SN3O0061

i had to cycle past it to finally notice this old building, obviously a company of some kind in Otowa Cho, Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City!

SN3O0055

I actually noticed it first from an angle across a car park!

SN3O0056

The nearer you get the thicker the ivy appears!
Mind you this full summer!

SN3O0057

They haven’t opened windows for ages!

SN3O0058

Covered with ivy on at least three sides!

SN3O0060

I truly wonder what’s hiding inside! LOL

Abandoned Shizuoka: Ivy Chimney in Shizuoka City!

I was cycling around Yamato machi in Suruga Ku, Shizuoka City when I espied a green column poking out of a cluster of houses and decided to investigate!

SN3O0702

That is when I realized it was an old chimney completely overgrown with ivy!

SN3O0703

Getting near enough was nigh impossible as it was completely surrounded with no open access to it!

SN3O0704

It is positively enormous by Japanese standards and would cost a fortune to pull down.
The company in front seemed to have ceased business.
They must have used an incinerator at their back.

SN3O0706

There was some kind of access for a better view with a flight of stairs but it was safely locked!

SN3O0707

I tried to walk though the high grass covering the small lane to another side access to what seemed a house or shed.

SN3O0708

Unfortunately the gate was safely locked and the whole place overgrown with the trees of an abandoned garden, especially loquat trees!

Romantic Gofuku Street in Shizuoka City?

There is little romantic about Gofuku Street in Shizuoka City!
It just shows you can easily transform any dour place into a destination with some appropriate photos!

SN3O0614

You don’t even need a professional camera and whatever paraphernalia.
I took all these pictures with my mobile telephone! It is a Sony Ericsson they don’t make anymore, but I use it for all my blogs, although I do not use the flash!

SN3O0611

I was in Gofuku Street, walking aimelssly, at around 7:00 pm, just before dog and wolf as we say in French, but it was particularly dark.

SN3O0612

The contrast was naturally accentuated by the lamps focused by the camera.

SN3O0613

If you know the whims of your camera, or mobile phone for that matter, I’m sure you can come up with some very interesting shots indeed!
And you don’t need to be a pro!

Plane, but not a “Zero”, along the Warashina Riwer, Shizuoka City, Aoi Ku, Tomizawa!

Cycling gives you the great advantage to be able to stop anywhere and take photographs for posterity!

SN3O0379

Yesterday i was cycling along the Warashina River in Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City when I found (for the second time actually. I had seen it there too many years ago) when Ifound this plane perched in front of a gasoline station in Tomizawa!

SN3O0380

The owner had obviously tried to redecorate it to make it look like a “zero sen”, the famous WWII Japanese fighting plane!

SN3O0381

The cockpit may make you think so, but the landing gear is far too modern!

SN3O0382

At the very least it has become a useful landmark!

Blazing Sunset Before The First Drink in Shizuoka City!

With the rainy season around the corner evening skies are more cloudy than usual and it results into some spectacular sunsets!

SN3O0196

The Shichiken Cho area in Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City is a very interesting location to take pictures of urban sunsets thanks to some retro decorations existing along the streets!

SN3O0208

Even simple high rise buildings contribute to a special atmosphere!

SN3O0207

Cherry Blossoms-Mizuochi Police Box, Aoi Ku, ShIzuoka City!

“Of all places!”, you might say and I tend to agree as the occupants of MIzuochi Police Box in Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City, are famously hopeless in a city where’s crime is almost inexistent and where the police is reduced to lurk on bicycles behind large signs to catch traffic offenders!

SN3O0016

I didn’t include the police box in my pictures lest its denizens use it as a proof of my malfeasance!

SN3O0009

The Mizuochi Police Box is located at the corner of Kitakaido Street and the Eastern Wall of Sumpu Castle Park.
There you can admire the wall and part of its moat.

SN3O0010

It is a great spot right now for cherry blossoms visewing, although it will last only a few days especially with rain forecast tomorrow!

SN3O0008

The trees are perched on top of the wall and cascade down to the moat!

Hagoromo Legend Statue in Shimizu Ku, Shizuoka City!

Not far from S-Puls Dream Plaza in Shimizu, Shizuoka City, a new bridge crosses the Tome River.
At bot end you will see a difefrent statue of a deity-like woman!

SN3O0069

The bridge bears the name of Hagoromo Bridge/はごろもはし!

SN3O0071

it was completed in March 1993!

SN3O0070

As for the second statue, it is magnificent. It is a pity that the background is somewhat ugly!
But I deserves many pictures!

SN3O0072

now, what is the story/legend of Hagoromo?

SN3O0074

Hagoromo or 羽衣 means “Winged Veil”.
The 1200 year-old legend has many versions.
As for our local version, which is the most famous in Japan, it happened on the beach of matsubara in Miho, Shimizu Ku, Shizuoka City.
The deity/天女/”Tenjyo” lights down on the beach in the shape of bird. She turns into a human woman leaving her wings in the shape of a veil while she bathes in the sea.
An old man espies her and hides her veil lest she disappears again.
The deity who cannot fly back to heavens marries the old man and gives him a son to please him.
The old man takes pity on her and gives her back her veil that the deity puts to fly back to heavens.

SN3O0073

Naturally the last line of the legend is where it varies from region to region!
Every year a Noh Dance is enacted on the beach of Matsubara to relate the legend!

SN3O0075

Do walk along the bridge.
