Some may ask why I have accepted to embark on this series of reports on local fashion…
Well. unless you are a beer-imbubibed trucker or overpierced punk (nothing against them, mind you, as they also make for great photos! LOL), one does feel the need to dress appropriately to enjoy good food, good drink and good drink!

I noticed that this year young ladies tend to incorporate some apparel made of denim or jean, an interesting notion when you realise that the material is resistant but still supple and practical, even in the worst weather or environment conditions and still easy to combine with as it is more or less of a neutral light blue usually.

Worn properly, they also tend to accentuate a slender silhouette while keeping with a muted character or easily matched with something a lot flasier or louder!

The long hot period streching from end of May well into October in Shizuoka allows for all kinds of both casual and elegant combinations. The predominant humidity will mean that you run a lesser risk of sunburns but the sometimes stifling atmosphere forces you into cold air-conditioned bulidings waht with shopping, eating and partying.
Therefore you do have to think a bit ahead in the morning!
Above is a typical example of what I would call “casual elegant” with the accent on “casual” thanks to the short pants.
You do have to be confident in your legs though!

here are examples of what IO would call “Elegant casual” although the pants combination might qualify for “Casual EleganT”, too!
The colors are expertly arranged and I must say it would enhance the beauty of any lady whatever the occasion while staying in very good taste!

Summer full body wrap?

Yesterday when I had to wait in a queue, and in the sun, for a seat at a popular cafe bistro in downtown Shizuoka I noticed that ladies (most of them in their 30’s and above) standing in the same queue could be divided into two distinct groups.

Scalf for a picnic?

Some ladies, obviously not very much aware of fashion had donned two or three layers of plain clothes while other ladies were wearing far lighter and more effective attire.
Among the latter quite a few were using light and airy scalves, not only to adorn themselves, but also to protect themselves effectively against the sun.

Scalves for shopping downtown?

By the same token the same scalves ensured that the ladies did not suffer from the sudden drop in temperature once inside the cafe.
As I have already mentioned the scalves are so light that there is no need to adjust or take them away, ensuring a constant image!

Lady Gaga is on a grand tour of Japan and I wonder whether she is influencing some designer!

I would be hard put to name this kind of fashion, although a female friend of mine dismissed it as “for kids!”

At least, with these sturdy boots and light apparel, any girl could manage an outing in the country for a picnic!

I took this picture the other at Cenova Department Store in Shizuoka City.
This particular store aims at young or young at heart people as far as fashion is concerned.
This summer promising to be really hot, designers seem to outdo each other with hats and thin but wide scalves to protect exposed skins from the sun.
The combinations in color seem endless.
On the other hand they do not hesitate to combine them with shortish pants…

Quizz: How old is Miwako Chan? Check at the end of article!

Yesterday I had the pleasure to discover an old friend, namely Miwako Unno/海野美和子さん at a boutique called “Smacky Glam” (interesting name!) on the 2nd floor of Parco Department Store which opened in Shizuoka City 3 years ago!

Miwako, being in charge of the boutique readily agreed to pose with a mannequin wearing almost the same apparel.

Typical combination of high and thin platform shoes and shortish slim pants to accentuate the length and line of the legs, with a light top designed for summer and warm weather.
The scalf is not only adding casual elegance but is needed first to protect the neck from the hot sun and also to protect the throat in cold air conditioned bulidings and shops!
Practical and elegant! And very casual, in the good sense!

Miwako is 31 years-old!

I had to spend quite some time yesterday walking along and around Aoba Park Street so I took the opportunity to shoot a few pictures of ladies clothing exhibited in the many fashion shops there.

I found this very colorful dress with all kinds of motifs and ribbons.

This is definitely a “cutie” or Cos play” dress, but of the higher scale as far as material and price are concerned!
I can see a rich daughter parading in it whatever the weather and heat!

Yesterday I had to take a train to Kikugawa City in day time which allowed me to take a couple of picture!
If you remember the first picture I published there are a lot similitudes!

Not only the timing but also the attitude/posture!
They always seem to be transfixed by their mobile phones, thus allowing me to focus on them at ease!

This one was actually using her mobile phone as small mirror!
I was quite interested by the contrast with her skull and bones bag!

Truth to say, a lot of young ladies adopt the same fashion, and pose, to look a lot younger than they really are, although there seems to be a limit (in age).
The problem is that the Japanese are terribly vain and young men/boys care little about any fashion but their own. At the most a lady is a good complement to their own garb and accessories…

Again some Japanese ladies are proud of their long legs and it is not often that mother and daughter can sport them together!
Of course if you have a friend with the same quality, the more the better as the Japanese feel comfortable as a group, which is pretty obvious in the above picture!

I think that Quizoxy will like this one!

A typical example of combining a little color on as much black as possible.
The black color is popular in Japan because it apparently “thins you up”, especially at legs level.
The thin high heels and stockings leaving a little skin exposed on the feet is almost run-of-the-mill fashion for girls, and many adult women too, who are proud of their legs.
Note that the skirt is kept high to emphazise the length of the legs.
Red and black is a very usual combination too. The red color will emphasize the raven hair, too! But obviously the girl above has forgotten this fine point!
A big bag is more for status than fashion!
