Annam is not only the newest but also the sole authentic Vietnamese Restaurant In the whole of Sendai City!
And it has a remarkable story (history)!

The very restaurant actually used to be in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture!
The chef/owner, Miss Nguyen Thi Hong (Japanese name, Mai Kudo), was the Chef in the Shizuoka City Restaurant when the previous owner, also a Vietnamese/Japanese National had to retire for family reasons.

Among their faithful customers were a family from Sendai City who had taken a special liking to Miss Nguyen to the point of adopting her into their family!

So when the shop closed they proposed her to move to Sendai City with them and re-open the restaurant under the same name, with the same furniture and the same cuisine concept!
And their common venture was opened in August 2017 in Sendai City!
I used to be one of their faithful customers back in Shizuoka City and when I visited Sendai City I just could not miss it!
Mai San (Nguyen Thi Hong) was certainly surprised!

And it was such a pleasure to enjoy the same and delicious morsels!

Fresh Spring Rolls!

Vietnamese Green Papaya salad!

For a closer view!

Vietnamese style o-konomiyaki!

Paper-thin crispy omelet!

Plenty of beansprouts inside!

Pan-fried rice vermicelli!

With all kinds of deep-fried tidbits!

Delicious vermicelli!

Pig ears terrine!

And don’t forget the Pho Soups!

Unbeatable!

Looking forward to my next trip to Sendai City!

Vietnamese Gastronomy: Dinner at Annam in Shizuoka city (Spring 2012)

Service: Very friendly, smiling and attentive
Facilities: Great overall cleanliness. Superb separate washrooms.
Prices: Reasonable to slightly expensive.
Strong points: Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine prepared and served by Vietnamese staff. Great use of local products. Vietnamese shochu!

Last night the Missus finally convinced me to pay a long overdue visit to Annam Restaurant in Shizuoka City!
Well, the Missus’ nickname is “Dragon” and dragons have always been welcome in Vietnam…
That said, Annam is not only the sole true Vietnamese Restaurant in the Prefecture, it is also a top-class establishment!
So what did we have for dinner?

Bain Seo, the Vietnamese equivalent, but a lot lighter, of a Japanese okonomiyaki!
Crispy and light, you break or cut it as you like and you wrap it in lettuce!

Soft shell crab sauteed with vegetables and herbs.

The edible shell is so soft and add so much to the bite and savors!

Fried pork fried in yakiniku style, deep-fried minced pork spring rolls and hot bifun rice vermicelli and chopped vegetables greens salad.

Lovely and crispy spring rolls!

And the vermicelli were as good as any pasta, and so much lighter!

A new item on the menu: Vietnamese style deep-fried chicken wings with pickled vegetables!

The chicken wings are first cooked tender before being battered (I mean dip in batter!) and deep-fried for a happy marriage between crispiness and tenderness!

We decided to skip dessert in favor of a mini pho soup.
Beef pho soup for me!

Chicken pho soup for the Dragon!

Looking forward to sampling their next summer menu!

Vietnamese Cuisine: Lunch at Annam (new address) in Shizuoka City!

Service: Smiling, very polite and friendly
Facilities: Superb cleanliness through and through. Superb toilets.
Prices: Appropriate
Strong points: Authentic Vietnamese cuisine by Vietnamese Chef and staff. Fresh products. Private room available and parties welcome in great comfort.
Entirely non-smoking!

Annam, easily the best Vietnamese Restaurant in the Prefecture, has just moved to a new location nearer to the bustling centre of Shizuoka City end of last June!
I finally managed to find some time today to pay them a visit for lunch before checking on their full dinner soon at full leisure!

It is definitely bigger than the old address and more intimate since it is now on a second floor instead of the ground floor.

You can either sit at one of the tables, on a couch along the wall, at the small counter or in a private room!

Although people cannot see from the outside, plenty of view for the guests with enormous bay windows!

A refined corner of Vietnam in the middle of Japan!

Annam’s gastronomy is both classic and modern with fresh ingredients, very light, healthy and satisfying!
To give you e better idea I opted for the set lunch (2,400 yen) which started with a quail eggs soup!

Next, the appetizers dish!

Raw Spring rolls.

Shrimp and green papaya salad.

Nem/deep-fried roll.

Plenty of succulent sauces and condiments to choose from!

Chicken sauteed with honey!

Beef Pho soup!

Very fresh ingredients!

Succulent traditional dessert with tapioca, banana, coconut milk and peanuts!

Real coffee with real milk and real coffee! So elegant!
Did you know that Vietnam is the second coffee producer in the World?

Looking forward to dinner very soon!

Vietnamese Restaurants: Annam (revisited)

Pa in seo/Japanese okonomiyaki!

Annam is probably not only the only authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Shizuoka Prefecture, but is definitely in a clss of its own.
If I listened to the Missus we would visit the place every week!LOl
Antway, the other day my best friedn, who happens to be Irish, and his Jpanese wife came to visit us after a lapse of two years.
We just couldn’t find a better reason to visit our favourite South Asian restaurant!

Here is what we ordered:

The Vietnamese have brewed beer for a long time and thier 333 is as good as any!

Artistic and very light raw spring rolls with shrimps.

Healthy green papaya and shrimp salad.

Stir-fried chicken and deep-fried rice cakes.

French influence in the steamed French bread with shrimp and peanuts topping.

As the beer and the sake (from Shizauok) has disappeared quickly, we chose a honest and reliable bottle of French Cotes du Rhone from Annam’s very decent wine list.

Home-made Vietnamese ham as a complimentary dish!

Stir-fried chicken and deep-fried imperial rolls with cold rice noodles salad.

Very light stir-fried vegetables in sweet and sour sauce.

Pa in seo/Vietnamese okonomiyaki, the specialty of the restaurant.
Enormous but as light as a feather and filled with loads of beansprouts!

No we did not have dessert, but pho soup instead!

Can’t wait for the next visit!
