Italian Gastronomy: 2019~2020 Winter Dinner at Soloio in Shizuoka City!

Service: Smiling, attentive and very informative.
Equipment and facilities: Spotless clean, superb washroom. Entirely non-smoking.
Prices: Reasonable~slightly expensive
Strong points: authentic Milanese cuisine. Excellent wine list. Superb products, be they loca,. Japanese or Italian! The best risotto in town!

There is little need to repeat why Soloio is simply and arguably the best Italian restaurant in Shizuoka Prefecture. There fore I will keep o describing the dishes we had the pleasure to savor during our latest visit!
Above is a carpaccio of very fine beef produced by Okanura Farm in Fujinomiya City!
Incidentally the appellation of carpaccio applies only to beef! how pedantic of me!

Salad of fresh mushrooms from Fuji City!

A constant favorite of mine: Shizuoka wild boar terrine!

Slightly extravagant when you consider the quality of the fish: sole/flatfish fritters!

So simple, but the “Dragon” (who is she?) just cannot visit Soloio without ordering it: potato and octopus salad!

Now, this is a first and absolutely elegant in spite of its name: home-made cocoa tagiatlle!

What we always come for: Piemonte Winter Truffles Risotto! Do I need to comment? LOL

And in spite of the Dragon’s protests I ended up with an affocado!

What’s next? Well, I won’t tell you until then! Lol again.

Italian Gastronomy: Dinner at Soloio in Shizuoka City (June 2016)!

SOLOIO-THE-TEAM

The Team!
Chef Takehiko Katoh/加藤武彦さん/Sommelier Mieko Osawa/小澤三江子さん

Service: Pro and very friendly
Equipment & Facilities: Great overall cleanliness and superb washroom. Entirely non-smoking!
Prices: Reasonable considering the quality
Strong points: Fresh local ingredients whenever possible. Both traditional and inventive Italian cuisine. Good wine list at moderate prices. Open late!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-A2

Time goes fast and I hadn’t realized I hadn’t visited my favorite Italian Restaurant in Shizuoka City, namely Soloio, for almost a year!
It certainly was time to make amends and enjoy some classics and new dishes concocted by Chef Takehiko Katoh/加藤武彦さん!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-A4

The setting has somewhat changed for even better!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-A5

You certainly won’t mind a stiff neck reading out some of the specials of the day overhead!

So, what did we have?

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-A3

Plenty of wine of course, but we started with a glass of this brilliant sparkling wine: Chardonnay “Le Vacanze” by Cantina d’Autore in the Veneto Region!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-1

Skillet-grilled aubergines/eggplants and duck raw ham salad!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-2a

Wild boar (caught in Mikkabi, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture) terrine!
I would come any day just for that!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-3

Shizuoka prefecture madai/seabream carpaccio!
The vegetables include uri/gourd!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-a

Chef Takehiko Katoh/加藤武彦さん creates the best risotto in the whole Prefecture and the above one was no exception with Umbria summer truffles!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-e

Little jewels!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-5

A superb dish not on the menu!
Shizuoka Prefecture tachiuo/scabbard fish (also called cutlass fish) cooked on a skillet with avocado!
A true discovery!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-6d

As we still wanted a light dish before the pasta (we have no respect for traditional order! LOL) we consulted the menu of the day again!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-6

Chicken thigh Rotoro/Rolled chicken thigh and stuffed with figs, marinated mushrooms and canederulli in carupione fashion/white-fleshed fish balls!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-7

The pasta!
Spaghetti Bolonese with beef stew sauce!

SOLOIO-JUNE-16-7c

By that time we were full but just for the fun we had a tiny dessert consisting of very sweet Shizuoka corn grilled on a skillet!
