French-American Gastronomy: Terrine de Campagne Sandwich at BLUE BOOKS cafe in Shizuoka City!

SN3O5033

Service: Very friendly, smiling and attentive
Equipment & Facilities: Great overall cleanliness. Superb washroom in same building separated from the cafe.
Prices: Reasonable for such big servings!
Strong points: Very generous cafe/bistro multi-genred gastronomy. Great variety. Great products. Entirely non-smoking in very modern atmosphere. Great books!

SN3O5028

The bar and drinks corner!

The great thing about a good restaurant/cafe is the regular, even if partly, change of menu!
This is why I’m always having difficulties keeping away from BLUE BOOKS cafe in Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City!

SN3O5029

The kitchen!

Actually, I had planned only a light snack that day, that is before I saw the menu!

SN3O5027

I soon realized it was a lost cause when I saw “”Sandwich in Pate de Champagne”!
Being French, I knew they meant “Terrine de Campagne Sandwich”!
Just reading this reminded me of the many such sandwiches back home!

SN3O5030

The Terrine de Campagne Sandwich Lunch Set!

SN3O5033

For a closer look!

SN3O5035

Enormous sandwich!
I knew I had to use fork, knife and all the fingers of both hands!

SN3O5039

A very generous portion of terrine!
Note that the bread was lightly seasoned and toasted, although a bit soft by French standards, but making it easier to eat!

SN3O5037

The bread!
Actually I ate the bread separately in between mouthful of vegetables and terrine!

SN3O5036

Plenty of lettuce, sliced onions and pickles!

SN3O5038

From another angle to show you the good balance, both in design and ingredients!

SN3O5034

And of course plenty of French (Belgian) fries!

SN3O5032

Always a local vegetable salad included!

SN3O5031

And plenty of tea to wash it down!

What is it to be next, I wonder?

American Gastronomy: Pancakes at Takajyo PANCAKES in Shizuoka City!

SN3O3435

Service: Smiling and attentive
Equipment & Facilities: Overall very clean. Superb wasroom
Prices: Reasonable
Strong points: Pancakes! Local vegetables. Healthy food.

As opposite to crepes which are French, pancakes must be definitely part of American gastronomy unless the British claim it first!
Now, if such a simple comfort food can be created and presented as gastronomic health food, I shall be the first to enjoy it despite my Gallic origins!

SN3O3488

Only 1 minute walk from Cenova Department Store on the right side of Kitakaido Street it is within very easy access!

SN3O3489

Takajyo PANCAKE is the first pancake-specialized restaurant in Shizuoka and is owned by Cafe Studio @ Shizuoka!

SN3O3490

And the restaurant is all non-smoking!
If you absolutely wish to indulge in your life-threatening habit, you may smoke in the back-yard terrace which is completely locked out in the cold, and that with some restrictions!

SN3O3442

The environment is simply spotless clean!

SN3O3431

You are constantly reminded of the menu offerings on samll screens and the music is all soft American jazz!

SN3O3443

Very cute menus for lunch!
Actually the place is open all day!
And you may indulge in drinking all day, too!

SN3O3444

Don’t worry if you can’t read Japanese…..

SN3O3492

The picture menus will make your choice easy!

SN3O3491

The lunch menus include a soup and a soft drink!
Let’s dicover some of their offerings!

SN3O3430

All vegetables, including those in soups and salads are all local and suprbly fresh!

SN3O3432

Great and tasty hot comfort for the winter!

SN3O3445

The black tea is actually made in Kawane, Shizuoka Prefecture!

SN3O3433

Herb pancake set lunch !

SN3O3437

Seasoned with a delicious herb dressing!

SN3O3436

Beautiful and crunchy salad!

SN3O3438

All this smoked salmon and vegetables are so healthy!
Mind you, it is highly satisfying!

SN3O3440

Actually, most of the leaf vegetables are also organic!

SN3O3439

And a beautiful soft-boiled egg (local) for exquisite balance!

SN3O3493

Millefeuille pancake lunch set!
I suppose any truly gastronomic American diner meust feature something in French on their menu! LOL

SN3O3494

Beautiful salad again!

SN3O3495

French “Millefeuille” sounds better than British “sandwich#! LOL

SN3O3497

Home-made roast beef!

SN3O3446

Now if you have some space left, try the mini pancake dessert set!

SN3O3447

I’m sure you will be tempted!

American Gastronomy: Quadruple Cheese Dog & Mushroom Melt Hamburger at Tequila’s Diner in Shizuoka City!

SN3O3357

Service: Shy but very friendly
Equipment & Facilities: Good general cleanliness
Prices: Reasonable to slightly expensive but very good value
Strong points: Tex-Mex gastronomy of superior quality. Doubles up as bar in evenings

Since QUIZOXY seems to be so interested here are two more American specialties I had the pleasure to savor the past week:

1) QUADRUPLE CHEESE DOG

SN3O3354

knowing that the owner is bike fan I was wondering if this was a relic of one of his accidents…
Actually it got burnt by accident in the kitchen!

SN3O3353

The hot dog as introduced on the menu: Cheese Dog!

SN3O3356

Yummy-looking, isn’t it?

SN3O3355

A touch of class in the appetizers: Home-smoked duck and corn salad!

SN3O3357

The half-foot long sausage in the oven-baked hot dog covered with cheese and the French fries (as they say in the States!)!

SN3O3358

Now, the big difference is that the sausages are exclusively home-made, not some cheap canned stuff!

SN3O3360

I can assure that the sausage alone would be reason enough to visit Tequila7s Diner!

SN3O3359

Not to mention the spicy French fries!

2) MUSHROOM MELT HAMBURGER

SN3O3361

The mushroom melt hamburger as announced on the menu!

SN3O3363

WOW!
No real need to comment here!

SN3O3362

Another touch of class in the appetizers: Home-marinated sardine and coleslaw salad!

SN3O3364

Now that hamburger was just too big to eat with my hands. I savored it with fork and knife!

SN3O3365

A closer view of the hamburger!

SN3O3366

the mushroom melt!
I couldn’t resist eating it separately!

SN3O3367

For a closer view!

SN3O3368

plenty of fresh local vegetables to accompany the 100% beef patties!

SN3O3369

The last picture to show you the cross section!

To be continued… You bet!
