Mishima City, after a long dormancy following the bubble era seems to steadily enter a new era with new restaurants, bars and shops to cater for an increasing touristic clientele thanks to the nearby Mount Fuji and many more attractions.
It is a city where, if you keep one eye on the pavement and anther above head, you can make some interesting discoveries!
The latest one for my part is a single side of a single street lined up with a series of shop signs, some directly inspired by many found in Europe displayed in obvious cooperation!

One of the venerated trees inside Mishima Tasiha!

Mishima Taisha/Mishima Great Shrine in the City of Mishima is one oone of the 3~4 biggest and most important Shinto shrines in Shizuoka Prefecture and it is simply too vast and comprising too many other shrines to be described i a single article.
This the first of a series of reports as I plan to visit Mishima City many times again in the near future and take the opportunities to discover other aspects and sights!

The people in Mishima City are very lucky as they are surrounded with fielads and gardens that supply them with fresh (many organic) vegetables (and meat) all year round!
Cafe Akko is one of the many great little places in town that offer very healthy, reasonable and slow food.

It has been conceived in an unusual all length and narrowness to take advatntage of whatever space available. And it is so clean!

Lunch is particularly interesting as you can choose from no less than 7 set lunches. although you may choose a single item from the carte if available for lunch!

Each quarter is then baked upon order and serve with a tasty but light tomato sauce.

If you visit Mishima City in the Eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture you ought to visit The Clematis Garden and the Bernard Buffet Museum in one single trip as they are very near each other.
You will be surprised at the amount of art on show!

It was brought to japan all the way to Mishima as it had been created in 1975 some time before Bernard Buffet came to establish himself in Mishima City!

The other day as I was going to board my train to Izu Nagaoka on the local private Izu Hakone railway Line in Mishima Station I noticed a new sign at the front:
“富士山文化遺産登録”: “Mount Fuji World Cutrl Heritage Registration”!

The last stop of this particular line is “修善寺”/”Shuzenji”.
Apart of the evident attraction to railway buffs I definitely recommend you ride this line which will show you so much of Izu Peninsula!

Skiing Ants in Mishima City!

I’ve just come from a short trip and overnight stay in Mishima City and Izu Peninsula where I had the occasion to discover a few interesting sites!

I didn’t know that ants could ski, but now I ave the proof!
This one was pretty big standing/sliding on a high pedestal in a small park!

Chef Nobeteru Oota/太田のべてるさん opened Inayoshi 12 years ago in Mishima City and moved it to its present location 6 ears ago 7 minutes walk from Mishima JR Station south exit.

Even after 6 years of constant cooking and serving the place is spotless clean!
When you realize he has only his wife and sometimes his mother-in-law to help, Nobeteru must be extremely busy morning to night ordering, buying and taking back home the day’s fish, vegetables and what else!

With an incredible ist of 50 sake including about 25 from Shizuoka Prefecture, an unending list of shochu (even some featuring Shizuoka!), awamori and umeshu, this must be the place to go drinking in the east of the Prefecture,
You will soon understand how the place is so deservedly popular as it is full by 6:30 pm! Make sure to reserve beforehand!

The sashimi is simply first-class and would be impossible to pay in Tokyo as the fish comes directly from the major fishing harbors of Numazu City, Shimoda City in Izu Peninsula! The plate above even includes rare Shizuoka Botan ebi/large sweet prawn and Tobiuo/flying fish from Shimoda! Moreve,r Nobeteru makes a point, even when the place is full, to introduce each fish and its origin to each customer!

This time we sampled only tsukune/chicken balls and shiri/chicken tail, but you must come again just for the yakitori!
Actually it would be hard to try everything the first visit so be warned!

The raw fish is extraordinary and the cooked fish sublime such as the “negima” above with tuna and amberjack served with yuzu koshio and grated daikon and ginger!

If you like tofu you must ask for agedashi dofu, a must-try japanaese delicacy!

The soup is just perfect! No wonder that in these times of economical crisis the establishment is full with local regulars!

Seafood and vegetables steamed in Seikyou Miso! The wife will first open it for you, eventually let you take a photograph and mix it for you!

This was our first visit, but since it is so worth spending on a train ticket expect more articles soon!
